DE Intern Spotlight – Dylan Manh Diep

Every year, Davids Engineering welcomes a group of college students to work alongside our team members on various projects for the summer. This provides the students with hands on experience and provides DE support and fresh ideas. We want to take some time to highlight this year’s interns.

Dylan Manh Diep is currently attending California State University, Chico and pursuing a degree in Civil Engineering. While at DE, Dylan will be assisting with Python coding, QGIS work and field measurements.

TELL US ABOUT YOURSELF
I am originally from Chico and now attending CSU Chico. My major is civil engineering and I’m involved in the Geowall club. In my free time, I practice different instruments (right now, I’m playing the Lyre), work on game design/development and I enjoy taking walks.

WHAT ARE YOUR CAREER GOALS?
To graduate and get a job where I can receive a stable income.

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE TO INTERN AT DE?
I wanted to know what water resources engineering was like in a work setting. I also have not experienced working in a private or engineering firm before, so I thought this would be a good opportunity to see what it’s like.

WHAT DO YOU HOPE TO ACCOMPLISH/LEARN AS AN INTERN?
I would like to learn more about how work gets done in the professional world. Field work, data analysis, communicating with clients, permitting/paperwork, and how repetitive tasks may be optimized are all interests I have as an intern.

WHAT MOTIVATES YOU TO GET UP AND GO TO SCHOOL/WORK?
A secure paycheck, first and foremost. I also like to put in a good effort if what I do may affect me or others.

BEST PIECE OF ADVICE YOU’VE EVER BEEN GIVEN?
“Just go out and try things.”

It’s simple, but if you want to do something and it’s within your ability to do so, you should. Music, art, spearfishing… whatever it may be.
