Every year, Davids Engineering welcomes a group of college students to work alongside our team members on various projects. This provides the students with hands on experience and provides DE support and fresh ideas. We want to take some time to highlight this year’s interns.
Corbin Vincent is a mechanical engineering student at California State University, Chico. As an intern at DE, he is working in the Technology Solution area developing a prototype image velocimetry monitoring system that can be used out in the field. The prototype will use a camera and microcontrollers to collect water level and flow data through video processing. Corbin also helps update and process field data and maintain the shop.
TELL US ABOUT YOURSELF
I am from Sonora, California, a small gold rush town in the Sierra Nevadas. I am graduating this year with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from California State University, Chico. Outside of work and study, I enjoy being creative through making music, art, video editing, or learning how to code my own video games.
WHAT ARE YOUR CAREER GOALS?
My career goal is to help improve clean energy and sustainable infrastructure using innovative and developing technologies. I plan on obtaining my PE certification, and my previous research in wastewater management technologies along with working for David’s Engineering has shown that water surveillance and management have a place for my mechanical and tech interests.
WHY DID YOU CHOOSE TO INTERN AT DE?
Interning at David’s Engineering has given me the opportunity to apply what I have learned throughout my education in a field I am interested in. I learned about the office through my environmental engineering professor who advised my wastewater technology research.
WHAT DO YOU HOPE TO ACCOMPLISH/LEARN AS AN INTERN?
As an intern at David’s Engineering, I hope to learn how to use software scripts and controls systems to help collect and analyze data in the field. I hope to accomplish a functioning prototype for the office before I graduate, and I also hope to learn from a variety of different aspects of water resource engineering to understand a big picture of what a career in this field would entail.
WHAT MOTIVATES YOU TO GET UP AND GO TO SCHOOL/WORK?
I value being able to learn new things at both school and work, and the possibilities of applying what I learn to improve the lives of others is a great motivator. There’s always a new discovery around the corner, as long as you continue to seek them.
BEST PIECE OF ADVICE YOU’VE EVER BEEN GIVEN?
I have my parents to thank for teaching me that you should never hesitate to reach out, whether that’s a loved one or a friend or a colleague. Access to another perspective is such a valuable tool that we often forget we can have.
