DE Intern Spotlight – Madison Hagglund

Every year, Davids Engineering welcomes a group of college students to work alongside our team members on various projects. This provides the students with hands on experience and provides DE support and fresh ideas. We want to take some time to highlight this year’s interns.

Madison Hagglund recently graduated from California Polytechnic State University – San Luis Obispo with a degree in Bioresource and Agricultural Engineering. As an intern she has had the opportunity to go into the field and help with sensor installations, work on design drawings on Civil 3D, and work on creating maps on QGIS.

TELL US ABOUT YOURSELF
I am from Escalon, CA and I graduated in June 2026 with a degree in Bioresource and Agricultural Engineering from California Polytechnic State University – San Luis Obispo. I am returning to Cal Poly this fall to pursue a master’s degree in agriculture with a specialization in Water Engineering. While at Cal Poly I was a member of AES (Agriculture Engineering Society) and the CLDC (Country Line Dancing Club). Some of my hobbies include line dancing, rock climbing, and crocheting.

WHAT ARE YOUR CAREER GOALS?
My ultimate career goals include getting my EIT and eventually getting my PE. I hope to work at an engineering firm where I can pursue my interest in designing water infrastructure.

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE TO INTERN AT DE?
In February, I went to the career fair that is put on by my department, where I got to talk to some of the people at DE. They talked to me about what DE does and it was extremely interesting and related to the career I want to pursue. After that conversation, I felt like DE was a place where I would want to be an intern.

WHAT DO YOU HOPE TO ACCOMPLISH/LEARN AS AN INTERN?
As an intern, I hope to learn more about Davids Engineering as a whole and see real world applications of lessons I have learned in the classroom. I hope that I can better my skills using Civil 3D and get more experience with drafting and design.

WHAT MOTIVATES YOU TO GET UP AND GO TO SCHOOL/WORK?
What motivates me to get up and go to school, or work is thinking about the opportunity that I have been afforded to be able to go to school and/or work. I feel very grateful that I have had the option to go to school and learn and I want to take advantage of that opportunity by showing up to classes and to work.

BEST PIECE OF ADVICE YOU’VE EVER BEEN GIVEN?
The best piece of advice I have ever been given is to go to Cal Poly as a BRAE major. If I had not taken that advice, I would not be where I am today.
