DE Intern Spotlight – Riley Currey

Every year, Davids Engineering welcomes a group of college students to work alongside our team members on various projects for the summer. This provides the students with hands on experience and provides DE support and fresh ideas. We want to take some time to highlight this year’s interns.

Riley Currey just recently graduated California State University, Sacramento with a degree in Environmental Studies. While at DE, he is working with our team members with communication and outreach to farmers within El Dorado County. This coordination entails frequent field days to take flow measurements, distributing uniformity tests and learning the agricultural practices in the area.

TELL US ABOUT YOURSELF
I am a recent Environmental Studies graduate from Sacramento State University, a university close to my hometown of Dixon. A major hobby of mine is the restoration of a Victorian house on our family farm, a project which has taken much of my life. Traveling is another passion, with Australia being the next destination on the map!

WHAT ARE YOUR CAREER GOALS?
My career goals are abstract, but most importantly I seek to learn as much as possible in the early part of my career. Building a strong foundation of information and mentors is a key goal of mine. In which, internships like the ones at Davids Engineering play an integral part.

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE TO INTERN AT DE?
Davids Engineering is providing an opportunity for me to expand my communications skills while learning more about the topics I love. On top of this, DE provides a great place for me to learn more about water engineering through a boots on the ground approach.

WHAT DO YOU HOPE TO ACCOMPLISH/LEARN AS AN INTERN?
I hope to absorb as much information as possible about agriculture, water and engineering.

WHAT MOTIVATES YOU TO GET UP AND GO TO SCHOOL/WORK?
My major motivation is the improvement of our current systems and infrastructure. The idea of how rapidly the world is changing excites me and drives me to learn about these new technologies.

WHAT’S SOMETHING MOST PEOPLE DON’T KNOW ABOUT YOU?
I have four adopted siblings, named Bianca, Chloe, Nathan and Ella. They are very wild siblings which love to show animals at almost all the local fairs.

BEST PIECE OF ADVICE YOU’VE EVER BEEN GIVEN?
You’ll never be sorry you bought the best.
