Irrigated agriculture in El Dorado County supports the local economy and currently generates over $40 million annually. The El Dorado County Water Agency (EDCWA) is evaluating the feasibility of developing additional water supplies to support expansion of irrigated acreage in the county and engaged Davids Engineering and ERA Economics to complete an agricultural development feasibility assessment study. ERA Economics led an analysis and evaluation of economic conditions, and Davids Engineering led an evaluation of the physical suitability for lands for agricultural development using a variety of GIS datasets and geoprocessing tools and techniques, development of crop coefficients using METRIC, and a crop root zone water budget model to estimate crop applied water requirements. This study provides valuable information to EDCWA as they evaluate the feasibility of developing additional water supplies.
